Health IT Hack, Futurist and IDEA GUY!
Also known by my given name, Zac Jiwa, I am a health information technology solutions executive with a broad range of experience and expertise across the healthcare ecosystem. This includes more that 13 years of health IT related design, development, sales support, implementation, software and hardware support, and project management experience in the private sector and State and Federal Governments.
Professionally, I am passionate about Healthcare technology as it pertains to Electronic Health Records and Electronic Health Information Exchange. Through my work in the healthcare public and private sectors, and the Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) I see the value in building systems which allow all aspects of medicine to connect fluidly which in turn will save time, money, and LIVES.
My goals are very simple. I want to make a POSITIVE IMPACT ON MY FAMILY, FRIENDS, AND SOCIETY. In business, I want the freedom to be innovative and creative, to think outside of the box and change the landscape of the healthcare world as we know it.
I was recently selected among the first class of Innovation Fellows for the US Department of Health and Human Services where I am focused on designing a shared service for Medicaid eligibility to address new rules defined by the Affordable Care Act.
Prior to joining HHS, I served as the Chief Technology Officer and Health IT Coordinator for the State of Louisiana under appointment by Secretary of Health, Bruce Greenstein, in the Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH). At Louisiana DHH, I oversaw Federal and State initiatives from the HITECH Act (Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act of 2009) as well as driving Innovation initiatives for the department.
I have served the Health IT community my entire career with leadership roles for both hardware and software vendors in addition to public and private sector provider and payer organizations. In my previous role at Microsoft’s Health Solutions Group I led Business Development for Connected Health focused on Electronic Health Record and Health Information Exchange solutions.
As the Healthcare Product Manager for Motion Computing, I led product strategy for the Motion C5 Mobile Clinical Assistant helping bring a new hardware platform to clinicians in the healthcare market. As a CIO for ‘Specially for Children at Children’s Hospital of Austin, I focused on deployment of EMR and telehealth technologies to the ambulatory pediatric practices of Central Texas as well as coordinating a smooth transition to the campus of the new Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas in the Spring/Summer of 2007. While living and working in Austin, TX, I also served as President of the Austin HIMSS Chapter where I provided leadership and guidance to the Texas Health Information Technology Advisory Committee and initiated coordination of the first, HIMSS sponsored, Texas State HIT Advocacy Day held in 2009.
I began my career as an implementation manager for an ambulatory Practice Management/EMR company where I worked with thousands of physicians and clinicians to adopt technology and improve care. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Oklahoma State University and have studied Marketing at the Kellogg School of Business at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL.
